The Cinnamon Hill Estate

The provided image features a Chinese Fringe Flower shrub characterized by its striking, deep pinkish-red blooms composed of thin, strap-like petals. These delicate, spidery flowers grow along slender, woody branches alongside dark, purplish-green oval leaves, creating a vivid contrast against the softly blurred background.

Its funnel-shaped flowers are prominently featured, displaying characteristic dark pink speckling on the upper petals. Small, dark green, pointed leaves frame the delicate blooms against a softly blurred background.

In Sri Lanka, “Bovitiya” refers to species in the Osbeckia or Melastoma genera. The vibrant purple blooms, curved stamens, and those signature parallel leaf veins are dead giveaways. It’s a beautiful native plant, and varieties like Heen Bovitiya (Osbeckia octandra) are highly valued in traditional Sri Lankan medicine, particularly for treating liver-related ailments.

Its most striking characteristic is the tall, cone-shaped inflorescence composed of vibrant, overlapping red bracts (modified leaves). The true flowers are actually small and white, eventually emerging from inside these protective red bracts. The plant is surrounded by large, lush green, lance-shaped foliage typical of the ginger family.

Duranta erecta, commonly known as Golden Dewdrop. While coffee cherries grow tightly clustered at the stem nodes alongside large, dark, glossy leaves, the golden-orange berries shown here hang in loose, drooping racemes among smaller, lighter foliage.

image displays a cinnamon tree, characterized by its distinct triplinerved leaves with three prominent veins. It features small, green fruiting bodies on slender stems. Noticeably, some leaves have raised bumps, which are common galls caused by tiny mites.

It is an herbal infusion made from the needle-like leaves of the Aspalathus linearis shrub native to South Africa. It is naturally caffeine-free, steeps into a deep mahogany-red liquor, and has a smooth, earthy, and slightly sweet flavor.

The black pepper plant (Piper nigrum) is a perennial woody vine that climbs using short aerial roots and features large, glossy, heart-shaped leaves. It produces long, hanging spikes densely packed with tiny blossoms that develop into clusters of small, round fruits called drupes. These fruits transition from green to bright red as they mature, and when harvested unripe and sun-dried, they shrivel into the hard, wrinkled, intensely pungent black spheres known globally as black peppercorns.

The coffee plant (Coffea) is a tropical evergreen shrub or small tree belonging to the Rubiaceae family. While there are over 120 species of Coffea, the global coffee industry relies almost entirely on just two: Coffea arabica (Arabica) and Coffea canephora (Robusta).

Coffee seeds, universally known as “coffee beans,” are the pits found inside the red or purple fruit (often called a “cherry”) of the Coffea plant. While they are the foundation of the global coffee industry, they are botanically seeds rather than true beans.

It acts as a primary decomposer. By breaking down dead and dying hardwoods, it prevents forests from being choked by debris and cycles essential nutrients back into the soil.

A red rose is a perennial flowering shrub of the genus Rosa. Renowned for its beauty and rich fragrance, it typically features velvety, layered red petals growing on thorny stems with dark green, serrated leaves.

It is a popular blooming succulent easily recognized by its thick, fleshy stems and clusters of small, brightly colored, four-petaled flowers.

The flesh is crisp, spongy, and highly watery. It resembles the crunch of a pear or apple mixed with the juiciness of a watermelon, offering a mild, refreshing sweetness.

The central subject is a tall, multi-stemmed Codiaeum variegatum shrub. Its lower, pale woody stems are relatively bare, leading up to dense clusters of elongated, leathery leaves. The foliage exhibits striking variegation: the older leaves lower on the stems show deep maroon, bronze, and red hues, while the newer growth at the top transitions into bright yellow and light green.

It is a floating aquatic plant easily recognized by its delicate, three-petaled white flowers with yellow centers and small, kidney-shaped leaves that resemble miniature lily pads.
